Commercial Summary.

Times Office, Wednesday Evening, 11th July. The Customs Eeceipts at the Port of Napier for the month ending 30th June amounted to £2 259 145., as follows: ’

We cannot report any improvement in trade since our last summary. A few auction sales have been held, but not generally with very satisfactory results. The termination of the wool season has left the trade of the port in its usual state of dulness, and at present there is no appearance of more animation. Mr Eoutledge held his first auction sale on Tuesday, 10th July, when he offered a quantity of damaged flour, ex Vistula, from Sydney, for which high rates were obtained, ranging from fl2 5s to £l9 per ton. The same day a sale of household furniture, &c., was held by Mr John Stuart, which also realised good prices. Stocks of groceries, candles, & c ., continue as betore reported, low, and in consequence these articles stiff command high rates. The consumption has been principally supplied by small importations from the neighboring provinces. The principal transaction of the month has been the leasing of the Ahuriri Plains. These comprise two blocks, containing together 3,800 acres. Ihe affair must be considered as a success, as the whole of the lots were taken up at about 200 per cent, in advance of the upset price fixed by the Government, The total number of live stock exported durintr the month has been 179 head of cattle, and 90y sheep. This shows a great falling olfiVora the exports of the last and preceding months j but considering that we are now in the very middle of winter,, it is not surprising. Tn.-re are two vessels now in port which will most likely be leaving for Auckland in a day or two with cargoes of cat” tie. ihe regular trading steamer Star of the South is expected to arrive from Auckland this day ■ and it is quite probable that she will be leavin'tor Auckland m a few clays with a cargo of stock"
