ARRIVAL OF THE STAR OF THE SOUTH. The favorite steamer Star of tho South, Capt. Bendall, arrived here on. the morning of Tuesday last, from Auckland, having left that port on tho evening of Saturday, the 16th. She brings a large cargo, chiefly consisting of flour. ARRIVAL OF THE WELLINGTON. TheN.Z.S.N. Co.’s s.s. Wellington, in command of our old friend, Captain Renner, formerly of the s.s. Lady Bird, arrived in port on the morning of Tuesday last—a day behind time. The causa of this delay will be found below. Tue Wellington was tho bearer of a very large general cargo, full particulars of which will be found elsewhere. THE S.S. WELLINGTON. We are informed that the reason why this steamer did not arrive at Napier true to her advertised date, on Monday last, 18th inst., was, that she was detained from the 17th to tho Ism, at 1 p.m , by the Government. This detention is to be regretted, as it caused a serious interference wit h the inland mails, which left for their destination some hours before her arrival, and besides necessitated her departure for Auckland after so snort an interval of lime as to deprive iter of carrying the freight she might have done.

THE BRIG MAGGIE. The brig Maggie, which unfortunately got ashore on the north-west end of Gough Island on Friday last, was, we are happy to say, got off yesterday afternoon—little or none the worse for being ashore for a day or two. THE S.S. LADY BIRD. By advertisement it will he seen that the favorite steamer Lady Bird is expected to arrive from Wellington to-morrow. She will enter the Iron Pot to discharge her cargo, and it is intended that she shall leave for Poverty Bay on Sunday, the 24th, returning next day, thus offering an excellent opportunity to all patties desirous of visiting that interesting locality. IMISCELLANEOUS. The schooner Saucy Lass, hence the 3rd inst., arrived at Auckland on the loth inst. She was again laid on for this port to sail on Tuesday, the 19th. The schooner Queen, hence the Bth instant, arrived at Auckland at the Isth inst. | /Ibe schooner Tawera arrived at Auckland from Poverty Bay, on the 15th inst., with a cargo of cattle and sheep. The schooner Fortune is high and dry at Opotiki. The s.s. Lady Bird, with the English mail, is due here from Wellington to-morrow (Friday). It will be seen by advertisement that she will make a trip to Poverty Bayou Sunday, returning next day. The s.s. Wellington steamed for Tauranga and Auckland at 4 p.m. on Tuesday last. The ketch Hero sailed for Wairoa with a full cargo on Sunday last. The ketch Sailor’s Bride was to leave Wairoa on Saturday last; so she may be hourly expected. The ship Holmesdale cleared at the Customs at Auckland on Saturday, 16th inst., for London, and would sail on the following day. The headquarters of the 40th Regiment embarked on Friday, the 15th. The ship Queen of the North, from London, arrived at Auckland on the 11th instant, after a rather tedious passage of 112 days. She brought out a large general cargo and 92 passengers. The barque Paria sailed for London from Lyttelton on the 2nd|inst., with 1779 bales wool, 24 bales sheepskins, and other articles, —the whole valued at i'38,118. The brigantine Vistula arrived at Newcastle from this port via Auckland on the 26th May. She afterwards proceeded up to Sydney, where ehe was again laid on for Napier with despatch. The s.s. Star of the South leaves for Auckland this evening with cattle; from thence she will proceed to Sydney.
