NAPIER. * Times’ Office, Saturday Evening, 19th May. Business during the week has been pretty brisk considering the time of year; but not much change in prices will take place till the arrival of the two English vessels, ‘ Shelburne’ and ‘ Banish' Beauty,’ both now considerably overdue. A large quantity of goods have, however, been imported during the week from the Australian colonies, via Auckland and Wellington. There have been three auction sales since our last, at all of which the goods offered, realised fair prices. The export of live stock during the week has been rather above the average, viz.: SHEEP. AUCKLAND. LIVE STOCK MAEKET. Messes Hunter & Co.’s Report for week endinc May 11. * We have to report that at our yards on Monday, at Newmarket, that fat cattle have fully maintained their late prices, and we consider have still an upward tendency. Best qualities have quite brought 50s the hundred pounds. The market was not well supplied. Youn<* store stock were in fair supply, and sold at high rates ; the demand continues greater than the number brought forward. Dairy cows were rather short in the market; a great many more would have sold than was brought, in. Prices still continue high. Sheep Market. —We sold a portion of cargo of wethers from Napier, ex Beautiful Star, They averaged 20s each. Some of the picked fat wethers brought from 22s 6d to 25s 9d each. A shipment of Merino ewes, ex Beautiful Star, in lamb to Leicester rams, brought 25s each. Merino wethers, provincial fattened, brought from 23s to 27s each ; half-breds, fat, from 33s to 34s each. Otahuhu Sale.—There was a fair show of storecattle and sheep at this market, and prices ruled about the same as Newmarket. Horse Market. —On Saturday, at the Durham Sale Yards, we had a large market of horses of heavy draught and light harness and saddle horses, but the most of them inferior description. Anything that is sound and young sells at rather improved rates. Wo consider the demand for young draught stock slightly improved ; good saddle and light harness horses are also bringing higher prices. Sydney maize sold at 7s 9d; oats, 5s 6d to 5s 9d per bushel. At the Hay market, on Saturday last, fodder was in increased quantity, but last week’s price* were sustained.

Horse Stock was lower in price. Draught mares, of good quality, £25 to, £3O each; medium draught horses, £lO to £l6; inferior horses, from 20s; foals, 25s each. Donkeys, from 20s to £3. - " 1 '■ For the land offered there was very little competition. The only lots sold were some allotments at Pokeno, which brought 13s each allotment. At the. Triangle, on Tuesday, there was a numerous attendance, and more stock than has lately offered. Yearlings brought from £3 17s 6d to £4 10a s eighteen months’ old, £6; and calves, from £2 to £2 17s 6d. Leicester ewes, of medium quality, bought in pens, from £2 11s to £3 2s 6d each; the Merino ewes, from 24s to 275, avenging 26s 6d each. The half-bred wethers, 29s 6d to 30s; Merino wethers, in good condition, 18s each. At Newmarket, on Thursday, grown store cattle were in demand ; not many offered. Dairy cattle, whether at the calving or otherwise, brought extreme prices, from £2 to £5 per head, higher than has lately ruled. Fat Cattle were in average supply— lCl head sold; prices were in favor of the seller. Best animals brought 50s the 100 lbs., and the average of the market was 455. Sheep market glutted with Merino wethers. The greater part were sold, hut at a reduction of 3s per head. Fat sheep were also plentiful. On Merino wethers there was a decline of 2s to 4s per head ; but half-bred Leicester wethers maintained their previous price. The market was very dull, and nearly all quitted. Pigs were in usual. Prices ruled higher—fat pigs ranging from lis to 12s the score. Calves were scarce, and extreme prices were obtained for those brought forward.
