MARITIME NOTES.
AEEIVAL Op THE B.S. THANE. The b.s. Thane, Captain Zealand, left Nelson on Friday, 27th ult, and arrived at Wellington the next day. On Monday and Tuesday took in a large general cargo for this port. Left Wellington on Wednesday, 2nd inst.; same experienced a severe gale from the westward, which was the cause of some damage—sails being split, and the mizen rigging carried away; also other damage. We regret to say that Captain Zealand sustained some injuries during the gale, caused by the fall of the rigging. The gale lasted in full force for about six hours, and Captain Zealand reports it as being one of the heaviest he has felt since he has been at sea. On Thursday, at 11 a.m., anchored in the roadstead, and came inside shortly after. AEEIVAL OF THE 3.3. WELLINGTON. The N.Z.S.N. Co.’s s.s. Wellington, Captain Thompson, arrived here about 4 p.m. on Saturday, from Auckland, with a large general cargo, and a few passengers. She steamed for Wellington same the night. ° AEMVAL OF THE 8.3. EANGATIKA. The N.Z.S N, Co.’a s.s. Kangatira, Captain Seymour, from Southern Ports, dropped anchor in the roadstead shortly after the ‘ Wellington.’ She brought up a full cargo ; and a number of immigrants, per ship Black Swan, The Eangatira steamed for Auckland yesterday (Sunday) at 2'30 p.m. AEEIVAL OF THE B.S. AUCKLAND. The P., N.Z., and A.R.M. Co.’s s.s. Auckland, Captain Hagley, from Auckland, arrived hero yesterday morning, about 8 o’clock, with a general cargo and a few passengers. She leaves with the English Mail this day, at noon. MISCELLANEOUS. The s.s. Beautiful Star, Capt. Morwick, which left this port on Monday evening last, arrived at the Tamaki at 8 a.m. on Thursday,! having experienced severe weather. She was to be laid on the slip in order to receive a thorough overhauling, when she would he again laid on for this port. The p.s. Sturt was to leave Auckland for Napier and East Coast on the 4th inst. The cutter Satellite was on the berth for this port at Auckland. The English Mail. —The public are reminded that the mail per s.s. ‘ Auckland,’ for England, Australian Colonies, Ac., closes at the Chief Post Cilice this day at 10 - 30 a.m., —an hour earlier than usual. The ship Black Swan arrived at Wellington on the 30th ult., from London, after a passage of 127 days. A number of assisted immigrants came out by her for this Province. The schooner Queen sailed for Auckland via Poverty Bay on Saturday last, in ballast. Sho will load cattle at the latter part for Auckland. The steamer Thane steamed for Poverty Bay yesterday (Sunday), with a cargo of sheep and a few passengers, bho may bo expected back this evening, and will leave again for the same place to-morrow.
