THE S.S. ‘TARANAKI.'
The N.Z.S.N. Go. 5 s fine new steam vessel Taranaki, Captain Seymour, arrived in the roadstead, from Southern Ports, yesterday morning, at 5 o’clock, being placed on the berth of late filled by the Queen, which is at present laid up for repairs. This being her ti. st visit to this port, an opportunity was afforded by her commander to a few of the residents of Napier to pay her visit of inspection. At 1 p.m. accordingly, the life-boat put off, conveying his Honor the Superintendent, the representatives of the two companies, &c., &c., from the shore. On arriving on board, the company proceeded to examine the splendid accomodations, aqd afterwards partook of a substantial lunch, and did the honors to our worthy Superintendent, the Directors of the Steam Companies, &c.; spent a few moments in listening to the melodious strains of the bag-pipes, aud returned to port amid the cheers from both sides, the vessel shortly after leaving on her way. We shall take the earliest opportunity of noticing this fine vessel more at length.
