The Intimation which was made some short time ago as to the existence of a fresh impediment to the navigation of the entrance to Port Philip Heads has been confirmed, and the rock which the Sam Cearus touched on when coming into this port has been proved not to he the Lonsdale Hock, as was averred, but an altogether separate obstruction, about a cable’s length outside of it, with a depth of water in its vicinity varying from five to eight fathoms. The chief harbor-master, Captain Ferguson, has been engaged for soma time iu, carefully examining the position of the rock. The Argues describes it as a rock with twentyfive feet of water over it at low tide. The surface is small, and the sides very steep, as on sounding, one lead touched at four and a quarter fathoms, and another from the other side of the boat at six or seven fathoms. The marks for the rock, until the bearing are published officially, are the chimney on the telegraph station at Point Lonsdale in line with the high beacon behind it j the east side of the lower lighthouse at Queensoliff iu hue with the west side of the boatmen’s look-out house, on the edge of Shortiand’s Bluff; and tho beacon on the Nepean Eeef on with the sharp low peak on Point Nepean.
