AUCKLAND. LIVE STOCK MARKET. Mr Buckland’s report for week ending March 2. At the Ilaymarfcct. on Saturday last, fodder was in improved request, and hotter worth 10s the ton. For the ploughs there was good competition; they brought £6 5s to £8 17s 6d; the thrashing machine, £4l; buggies, from £l6 to £23. Maize was dull of sale at 6s 9d: oats, best sample, 6s Id; interior samples, 3s 9d to -Is 6d; rye grass seed, Ss 6d the bushel. The horse stock offered was of a secondary class, and sold freely—draught stock, from £lB to £35: riding horses, from £lolos to £l7 17s; ponies and inferior horses, from £3. At the Triangle, on Tuesday, not many cattle were penned ; all offered sold freely at full prices. At Newmarket, on Thursday, there was a considerable number of calves and young cattle penned. They met with a good inquiry, and prices advanced 10s per head. Dairy cows of good quality are much sought after; best animals bringing from £2O to £22; second class cows, from £l2 to £l6; dry cows, from £7 to £lO. A full supply of fat cattle met with an irregular sale ; small-sized cattle were chiefly in request. All penned were sold at last week’s rates. Fat calves were in short supply, and higher prices were obtained; for they brought from £3 2s 6d to £3 10s each. For breeding and grazing sheep there is a steady Inquiry, and advanced prices are obtained for them. Several pens of aged large-framed ewes brought from 27s to 29s each; Merino wethers, trom the coast, 17s 9d to 24s 9d each. Fat sheep and lambs were in full supply. Previous week’s prices were scarcely maintained. For the Leicester sheep advertised, there many inquiries. The English rams which were aged about £lB, £l2, and £lO respectively; a pen of ewe lambs, after them, £5 each; and a pen of ram lambs, bred by Mr Grigg, £5 each. Pigs, both fat and store, are in steady request at full prices. Messes Hunter & Co.’s Report for week ending March 2. We have to report that fat cattle have fully maintained the rates that have been ruling. Best qualities from 40s to 45s per 1001 b. The market was well supplied. Store cattle were in fair supply; prices are still ranging high. Half-fat steers, £8 to £9 a head. Springing heifers are very scarce in the market, and prices high. Dairy cows are much inquired for: the market was barely supplied with this class of stock, prices, for good animals, varying from £ls to £2O a head. Sheep Market,—Thera was a fair supply of fat sheep in the market, principally of medium qualities. Some prime qualities, ex Beautiful Star, from Napier, brought 31s 6d each; half-breds brought 34s each; stores, medium qualities, ranging from 21s to 265. Otatiuhu Sale.—There was a got# number of store cattle at this market. Full-grown steers. £6 10s each; springing heirers, £9 15s each; dairy cows and some fat cattle about the same as at Nawmarket. Waiuku Quarterly Sale.—There was a large muster of cattle at this market, principally of stores, cattle and dairy cows. About 130 head were sold. Prices considered good, and about the same as at Newmarket. Horse Market.—We consider horses rising in price, especially good draught that can be warranted; also good backs. The market is bare of both classes. There was a fair show on Saturday last, but mostly inferior animals. Maize, 6s 9d to 7s per bushel. The following rates have ruled during the week:—Fro-vinciai-fatted cattle, 45s per 1001 b; store steers, full grown, £lO to £l2; dairy cows, £l3 to £l7 : threc-ycar old st ers ( £8 to £lo; springing heifers, £lO to £l2; haif-brod sheep, 31s each; menuos, 32s to 27s each; prime quality sheep, es Beautiful Star, from Napier, brought 31s each. Horse Market: Medium draught, £25 to £35; heavy draught. £4O to £6O; good hacks, £l3 to £25.
