‘ Times ’ Office, Monday Morning. Business during tlie past few flays lias teen exceedingly flat—owing, in u great measure no doubt, to its being benday time. The sale of the Meanee Township, which has been advertised in our columns for some time past, came off on Wednesday last, the 2Sth ult., and we think it must have been alike satisfactory to auctioneer and proprietor. The lots sold —67 sections, comprising some 17 acres realised £1,716 10ssome of them (nearly quarter-acre sections) selling at £36 each. OTAGO. Deivee, Maclean & Co.'s Montht-t Live Stock, Station, Wool Eei-oxt. Dunedin, 16th February, 1860. Dueino the past month, and as usual at this season we are able to report a decided improvement in the stock market generally, but mere particularly for breeding l.wes and Lambs, in which transactions to a considerable extent, have within the hist few days been completed, at prices as quoted below, and wa stiff have buyers for large numbers of this description of stock. Fat Stcck.—The supply of Fat Cattle, though not great, has teen equal to the demand, and prices hate ruled a shade easier since the bcgjiniving of the present mouth. •The tendency of the market generally, at this season, has been downward, but the Mock of Fat Cattle in the Province is now so limited that we can hardly expect to see any material reduction in price this year. Fat W ethers of medium quality are'plentiful, but wo are pleased to notice that they are not being forced on the market in great numbers, otherwise, with the present limited consumption, a glut would be the refr.lt. fat Calves snd Lambs are saleable at fair value, according to she and quality. Store Stock—As before stated, young ewes and lambs are in active demand, purchases being made principally for Ibe south. 4 and C-looth owes find purchasers at fuil rates, while full and broken-mouthed are not much inquired for. and no sales of any consequence have been completed. Store wethers are plentiful, but although offering at very low figures, find but lew purchasers. IVe hope cro long, however, to observe a better teeling with regard to this class of stock. We have sold during the month: Fat Bullocks, from £IS to £23 ICs, or equal to 46s per lOOlfcs. Fat cows,- £l2 to £ls. Wo quote 45s per iOOiba as present value of prime beef. Fat wethers delivered in town, 18s to 2Cs each; do delivered on stations, 4d per lb; fat lambs, ISsto 16seach; store cattle, mixed mobs, at £6 its to £3; bullocks, over 3 years, £lO to £11; store sheep, maiden ewes, 18s to 20s each, according to proximity to purchasers, &c.; 2,4, and 6-tooth ewes. 17s 6d each; full and broken mouthed, from 8s to 12s each; wethers, 12s to 13s each; lambs, mixed eexes, 20a to 21s per pair, one or two choice lots of lambs have been sold at 22s per pair. Bams and stud ewes, Ac. . —We have already disposed of a large number of rams from the well-known flocks of Messrs Rich, Julius, Degraves, Bell and others, and have to report a good demand still cqisting for well-bred rams. We would particularly call attention to our annual sale of pure bred stock of every description, to be held on the 2nd of March next, when we Will offer a large number of pure rams and ewes—both merino and long-woolled—and hulls and cows, all of which have been carefully selected from the most celebrated breeders in Kew Zealand and Australia. Station Properties.—Although there are buyers in the market for good properties, no transactions have taken place during the past month, holders evincing less inclination to sell. We would tall attention to the sale by auction, on the 28th instant, of the Hyde Home Station, containing 50,000 acres, with f1,7u0 sheep. Wool.—Wo have held onr usual sales during the month, the attendance being numerous, and the biddings spirited. All lots offered found buyers, at prices which ca a not prove other than satisfactory to the grower. Creasy clips, light in condition, and of good staple, and well got up fleece, Were much sought after; and prices obtained at our last Bale show an advance of about l|d per lb on tbc fine sorts, and 3d on medium. We regret to find that in many in6tanc.es. there is still a great want of attention on the part of growers in separating locks and pieces from the fleece, which, when neglected, destroys the confidence of buyers both in this and the home market, and prevents the grower from realising prices which he might otherwise obtain. The result of our efforts this season has proved beyond doubt that sales of wool by auction in the market are an established fact, thus giving to the grower a sure and good market for his clip, without waiting many months for an uncertain result. We quote prices obtained at onr public sales as follows: Greasy Fleece merino, 9jd to 12id per lb ; do. do. halfbred, 12|d to 13vd per lb; washed fleece, 17(d to 20(d per lb; scoured fleece, 22d to 25d per lb; scorned skin wool, 20d to 23d per lb. Sheepskins are not in great demand at present, fellmongers having their hands full with the many clips that are being scoured before shipment this year. Good skins are worth s|d to 7d per lb. Hides.—But few really good hides at present in the market. There are purchases for sound parcels for shipping, Bt from 7s 6d to 12s 6d, according to weight. Tallow, still very scarce. Good mixed beef and mutton is worth £4O per ton.
