FIRE IN SYMONDS-STREET.

This morning, about three o’clock, just as we wer® going to press, the ominous fire bell sent forth it® thrilling sound, and at the same moment the sky was covered with a red glare in the direction of Byraonds-street. We at once despatched a messenger to the scene of conflagration, when it was found that Pope’s hakery was in flames. The whole building and seyeral stables and out-bouses were completely destroyed, and it was with the greatest difficulty that the surrounding buildings were saved. We cannot say whether Mr Pope is insured or not, but we heard that he is.—-New Zealander, 14th February.
