THREATENED POSTAGE TAX ON NEWSPAPERS.
[To the Editor of the Hawke's Bay Times.J
Sis,—-You have given your readers to understand that there is reason to suppose that, during tho next session of the Assembly, an attempt will be made to impose a postage tax upon newspapers. If this be the truth I think we ought to know what is the opinion on this question ; of each of tho gentlemen who intend to stand for our district for it is one of great importance to us. How is it that these gentlemen have never given the electors a chance of asking them a question on their politics ? There are other questions besides tho above that many would like to have answered be* fore they make up their minds as whom they would like to send to represent them. Why not call a public meeting and explain matters as I find gentlemen are doing in other parts of the Colony. —Yours truly, ENQUIRER. Wairoa, 20th February, 1866.
