Canterbury Races.—The Canterbury Times, of the 20th ult., says : —The great excitement of the week, in Christchurch and the neighbourhood, has been the Metropolitan race meeting, which took place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday last. . . Mr Harris’s Belle of the Isle won the Cup, asd both she and the same owner’s Storm Bird hare been easy'winners against the old maie (Lady Bird.) ' Mr Walker’# Nourmahal and Master Rowe have also won money for their owner, credit for their trainer, and honor for Canterbury. Mr Lance’s Nebula, from the same stable, won the Derby. The successful visitors were Mr Parmer’s Virginia, from Auckland, in two handicaps, and Mr Stafford’s Trust, from Nelson. Mr Weld’s Policy, beaten at other races, carried off the Consolation Stakes, the last event of the last day. Lady Bird won nothing whatever.
