AUCKLAND, LIVE STOCK MARKET. Me Bucsland's report for week ending Jannuary 13. The sale held at Penrose oa Friday last was very numerously attended. There was a steady inquiry for ail dsscriptions of horse stock, particularly for draught mares, geldings not averaging more than half their price. The average obtained for the lot was about £lß—lyd were sold. At the Haymarket, on Saturday, several loads of new hay were disposed of, meadow hay, at £4: oaten hay, £a the ton. During the week smad parcels of pressed meadow hay Lave been sold at £8 Us the ton. No maize was offered at the auction. Not many head of horse stock were onered, and those were of au inferior description, and soid at nominal rates. At otahuUu, on Tuesday, there was a good inquiry for the stock and score steers sold in advance of late markets, two-year olds bringing from £7 Iks lid to £3 7s Bd each. Merino wethers, in good condition, uus; ewes, 24s each. At Newmarket, on Thursday, there was a very full supply of cattle, with a steady inquiry for all descriptions ; fat cattle maintained their previous quotations, ana for gooa stores there was au improved demand. 130 grown oxen were sold at £lO each. F or the store sheep tnere was a steady inquiry. Aged ewes brought 13s Bd and 14s each: hall-bred Leicesters, 39s to 33s each; fat lambs were plentiful, aud maintained their price, but merino wethers were lower. Several pens were withdrawn. Messes Muster & Co.'s Report for week ending January 12. We have to report that busluess has considerably improved this week. Monday at Newmarket we had a full market of Provincial fattened cattle, which sold readily at a slight advance on previous week's rates. Best qualities fully realised from -v ; s to 60s the lOOlbs; second qualities from 40s to 45s the XOOlbs. Dairy cows aud sold freely, and fair prices were given for animals, of a fair class. Store Cattle. —There was not many of this class of stock in the market, but those that were in sold well. Veal calves were in full supply, and sold well. Sheep Market.—We had a large ma.ket of fat sheep both of halt-bred aud merinos, we sold about 300 lat sheep, prices are a shade better this week than last week. Lambs sold well, but our market was bare of good qualities, the few that were in realized their full value. Otahuhu Sale.—We had a large market of young store cattle at Otahuhu ol superior description, about eight head were sold, the prices were considered good. Heifers, year old to eighteen months brought £5 per head. Steers same age, £4 los per head. * Papakura Sale.—There was a good muster of cattle at this market, all to hand were sold. Full grown neifers brought £d os per head. Steers from £d 6s to £7 los per head. Horse Market, —We have to record a decided improvement m the horse trade, prices are considerably better than what they have been for some months past, we had a full maket on Saturday last, and all in the market was sola. The supply of horses was not equal to the demand on low priced horses, the advance in price was f 1 aalj y noticed as they realised fully £3 or £4 a head higher than they have for seme months past, about fifty changed hands. Maize brought from 6s 3d to 6s Bd per bushelbest hay, about £6 to £7 per ton. * The following rates have ruled during the week:—Provincial fattened cattle, best qualities, prime, 45s to 60s: meuium qualities, 40s to 45s per lOolbs; store cattle, year old to year aud half old, heifers, £5; steers, same age, £4 10s; two and three year old heifers, half lat, £3 to £d 10s; steers, same age, £7 to £7 17s Bd; dairy cows £lO to £ls; veal calves, £1 to £2; fat sheep, best quality, prime, 30s to 3os; medium qualities, 22s Bd to 29s each.
