News Of The Day.
Almanac. —We have to acknowledge the courtesy of the editor of the Hawke’s Bay Herald, in sending us a copy of a sheet almanac foe the current year. It is well printed, and altogether well got up ; and shows also that great care has been taken in its compilation. Peizb Fxeing. —On Monday last the firing for the District Prizes took place at the Old Hide Range, on the White-road. The weather was delightful, and altogether a better day cculd not have been chosen ; yet, strange to say, the result of the firing was not what might be deemed satisfactory. The competitors were nine in number—the highest (the only one qualified to compete for the Colonial Prizes) being Dr Hitelnugs, who scored 33 points, hio 4 Company ami the Napier Hide Volunteers commence on Thursday (this day), and we trust they will show a somewhat better score than did N’os. 1,2, a*jd 3 Companies on Monday lath
