WAIROA.

The arrival of the St. Kilda last Sunday also placed us in possession of a few days later news from this district than that given by our correspondent—extending to the afternoon of Sunday last. The rebels were entrenched in the Upper Wairoa district to the number of some 500, having been recruited from the Uriweras and tribes on the Coast. A party of 20 0, all tol 1, of the Colonial forces, European and Native, had already been despatched to their entrenchments, and there is no doubt that hostilities have already actually commenced. The country is described as of the most rough and difficult character, affording ample shelter, and, we fear, means of escape to the enemy. The St. Kilda took her departure for Wairoa last evening, and we shall await her return with some interest.
