Local Intelligence.

Finn.—lt is our duty to record another of those accidents by which the town has more than once been threatened with destruction ; but which has once more providentially passed over without doing the mischief that might be expected. The scene of the conflagration on this occasion was the stables of Messrs Ford and M'Hardy, at the rear of their premises in Hastings-streset, and occurred about midnight of Tuesday last. From all we have been able to gather of the disaster, we understand that it was probably owing to an unextinguished pipe that had been used by a lad who sleeps upon the premises, and who himself barely escaped from the burning building only partly dressed. In addition to the premises two line horses were very severely injured—one having to be shot to put him out of misery ; the other, we understand, will not be in a tit state to work for several months to c,mo. A number of hides, and much miscellaneous property was also destroyed. We can only be thankful that the wind was not from an easterly quarter at the time, as, if it bad been, but little short of a miracle could have saved the extensive blocks of buildings in Ilastings-street from destruction. We are informed that the stables were partly insured to the amount of £SO, but this docs not cover one fourth part of the loss.
