A Peotixctai. GtOteexmext Gazette was issued on Monday last, appointing Joseph Rhodes, Esq., Deputy Superintendent.
His Honoe the Shpeeintendent left town on Monday evening last, for Poverty Bay, in the p.s. Sturt.
Township op Clyde. —lt will be seen by advertisement elsewhere that the sale of lands in the above district will be resumed on Friday (to-mor-row), Ist December.
Holiday. —This Day, being St. Andrew’s Day, will be observed as a general holiday in the Provincial Government Offices.
Condy’s Peepaeations. —Samples of Condy’s Patent Concentrated Vinegar and Patent Purifying Fluids have been received by the Sunbeam, and may be examined on application at the Times Office.
Rain. —¥e have much pleasure in recording the welcome change in the weather from the extreme and long-continued drought that we have on several late occasions been called upon to lament, to a most refreshing season of rain, which will be most acceptable to all who are interested in the welfare of the growing crops,—which have very materially suffered from the late drought,— and has refilled the exhausted tanks and barrels of those who have to depend on the clouds for their supply of water. The New Zealand Guaedian, No. 2. —The second number of thii periodical has come to Laud. Like the the first number it consists of eight pages of typography, and well bears out the character of its predecessor. It gives promise of attaining to a prominent position among the literature of the colony. We subjoin the following synopsis of the contents of the present number. Leading articles on the Maori Question, the Distillation Act, Losses and Gains to the Permissive Bill, and Home for Destitute Children. Essays on Paul’s Advice to Timothy, Professing Christian Liquor Dealers, on Doing Good, Christian Consistency, and the Theatre, Kindness Rewarded, A tradition respecting John the Apostle. Correspondence—Christian Unity ; The Militia. Intelligence—Canterbury ; Otago; Nelson; Wellington j Auckland, &0., &c., &c.
