The Hawke's Bay Times. NAPIER, MONDAY, 2 0th NOVEMBER, 1865.
The operations of the Colonial forces at Poverty Bay may now be said to be fairly commenced, and we believe that our next advices will bring us a good account of their proceedings against the fanatical Hau-haus. The arrival of the p.s. Sturt on Friday evening placed us in possession of our correspondent’s letter, conveying the important intelligence of the actual departure of the combined forces towards the enemy’s entrenchments, some seven or eight miles distant from the Turanganui Camp, with the intention of commencing operations on the morning of Friday last. The utmost confidence prevailed throughout the whole body of the troops in the successful issue of the pending operations. The skill and tact of the gallant commander. Major Fraser, is such as to compel the respect and admiration of all under his command, —who are in consequence imbued with a portion of his spirit and anxiety for an actual opportunity of showing their ability in the field against the fanatics.
