The Waieoa Mail. —The non-arrival of this mail, due on Saturday last, up to the present time, has given rise to a good deal of speculation as to its probable cause. Wo are informed that it has been owing to an accident to the mail carrier, who received a severe kick from his horse during his upward journey. We understand that the mail carrier has recovered; and that the mail may, therefore, be expected in to-day. The Weather. —Many complaints are being made of the effect of the long continued drought on the past ures of the count ry, which are burnt up by the solar heat. During the night of Tuesday there was a slight rainfall in the town, which we trust was more extensive in the country districts, and if so, would be felt as a blessing. The atmosphere still shows signs of moisture, which we trust will not pass off until the thirsty earth has been refreshed by a seasonable supply of rain. Public Meeting.—We beg to draw attention to an advertisement in another column, by Wm. Colenso, Esq . calling for a meeting of his constituents in the Council Chamber, on Monday evening next, at |-past 7 o’clock.
