Goxd Bonus. —We learn from the West Coast Times that Mr Albert Hunt, who is well known by most miners as the pioneer of the West Coast, has despatched a petition to the Provincial Council, claiming the reward of £IOOO offered by the Canterbury Government for the discovery of a payable gold-field. It was M r Hunt who prospected the Greenstone —a field which has been in high favor by the miners for some considerable time, and was the first miner who made the journey overland torn Christchurch to the West Coast, With the exception of Mr Eevell, then Government storekeeper at the Grey, Mr Hunt was the only European on this coast, and for a lengthened period was engaged in prospecting—alone and unaided If enterprise and energy, combined with a disregard of hardships and danger entitle Mr Hunt to the reward, we may say that ho has fairly earned it, and trust that he will be successful in his application.
