Mrs W. H. Foley and her celebrated corps dramatiquo (which arrived here on Friday by the Lord Ashley, from Auckland) have, since Monday night, been enlivening the good folk of this proverbially dull township with their brilliant entertainments at the Masonic Hall, On Monday night the performances opened with the comedy “ Time Tries All,” which was most ably executed, and elicited loud and hearty applause from (the threatening appearance of the sky notwithstanding) a numerous audience. A very witty Protean sketch, entitled “ A Pair of Pigeons," during which Mrs Foley enacted two different parts, followed, and caused a great deal of amusement. Last of all came the ,“ Spectre Bridegroom,” which was most cleverly executed; and which well-nigh had the effect of throwing the whole audience into convulsions. On Tuesday night the performances opened with the comedy of c< The Young Widow,” —selections from “ Macbeth ” following;—the whole concluding with the laughable farce of “ A Kiss in the Hark.” The appreciation of the performance—particularly of Mrs Foley’s—was repeatedly shown by the plaudits of the house. Her representation of Lady Macbeth was peculiarly natural, and was exceedingly well received. Last evening another full bouse rewarded this talented company ; although the inclemency of the weather, we have no doubt, deterred many from paying them a visit. The performances (by special desire) were the same as on Monday evening, and where all acted so well that it would be invidious to mention names; therefore wo can only say that it came off excellently. A reference to our advertising columns, will show that another performance takes place this evening. Selections from Macbeth are going to bo repeated—Mrs Foley’s splendid personation of Lady Macbeth having induced several to request a repetition of that favorite Shakesperian tragedy.
