COMMERCIAL.
AUCKLAND. The customs receipts for the week ending September 16, amounted to £5,380 12s 9d. Messes Hunter and Co.’s weekly report, for the week ending September 15. W. hare still to report the extreme high rates that hare been lately ruling, and with an upward tendency; best qualities provincial fattened cattle brought from 55s to 60s the lOOlbs. The market is very barely supplied with this class of stock, and the high rates are likely to continue for some time. Store Stock. —The market has been fairly sup. plied with this class of stock; the demand is good, and prices realized are satisfactory. Dairy cows have been in good supply, but prices are lower,
those in the market this week were rather inferior, but good cows still maintain high rates. Veal calves, there were a good many in the market, and they brought good prices. Sheep Market. —We had a fair market of fat sheep, some prime qualities brought 42s each; but of this sort there were not many to hand. Merino sheep provincial fattened, brought 30s to 35s each.
In the Horse market we notice a slight improvement, sales are easier, and prices better for some descriptions. Good hacks and light harness horses are bringing higher prices than they have done for the last two months. Draught harness still continue low, but all draught stock to band in the market of late has been of a very inferior description. Fresh stock we think would sell fairly. Maize, we sold several parcels at from 5s 3d to 5s 6d per bushel; hay at from £5 to £7 per ton. We sold some lots of seed potatoes at £4 to £4 10s a ton.
