The flue little steamer Beautiful Star left Auckland at 11 o'clock on the morning of Saturday, the 2nd; bad fresh sou-west winds to the East Cape, which she passed about the same hour on Sunday morning. Prom thence to Napier had light variable winds; and made the anchorage about ten a.m. on Monday, the 4th inst. The favorite steamer Star of the South left Auckland at Six o’clock on the evening of Saturday last, 2nd insf,, with a light southerly breeze. At 8 p,m, on Sunday passed the East Gape—wind being south-west, and weather free. At noon on Monday passed Portland' Island. Experienced -very fine weather, winds South and East, from thence to Napier—arriving in the roadstead at 6-30 the same night. Entered the Iron Pot at 4 o’clock on Tuesday morning last. The Government steamer St. Eilda, Captain Deck, arrived here o» Tuesday morning last, .about eleven o’clock, from the East Coast. She reports the p.s. Huntress as having arrived at Hicks’ Bay at nine o'clock on Saturday night last, after a run of thirty-sip hours. The s.s. Eaugatira, arrived here op Tuesday afternoon last, from Wellington. The same evening she came np to the poipt af the entrance to the Iron Pot, and discharged her cargo, among which were some horse* belonging to Mr Foley’s Circus Troupe; apd took her departure for Auckland on Wednesday last. The fine new clipper schooner Clyde, Captain Cheshire, left Waugupoa ou Saturday, the 2nd instant. Had strong nor-west winds to the East Cape, which she made in sixteen hours. From thence to Napier had light and variable winds, aud made the anchorage about ten o’clock on Tuesday night light last. On Sunday evening last saw a large man-of-war steamer enter Hicks’ Bay (the Brisk, in all probability.) The Clyde'is a new schooner, of the first order; built by Mr Niool, the weU-khown ship-builder, of Mechanics’ Bay, Auckland: pud owned by Mr T. Craig, of the same Province. She is about 40 tons builders measurement, of light draught, and a very fast sailer—as proof of which lattgr quality we may sfato that duriug the present trip, from Wangapoa to East Cape, she averaged 12 knots pn hour. We understand that the Clyde is going to be a regular trader between this port and Auckland; and will, if we mistake not, prove a most valuable acquisition to the coqstipg fleet of the Colony. The cutter Betsy, Bushell, master, from Poverty Bay, arrived here on Tuesday evening last—dropping anchor in tho roadstead about nine o’clock. She entered the Iron Pot last evening. Tho s.s. Lord Ashley, from Auckland, arrived in Ahnriri roadstead about one o’clock on Wednesday morning last ■ aud leaves for the South with the English Mail this day at noon. The schooner Zillah, which vessel left Auckland for this port via Cabbage Bay, may now bo hourly expected with a cargo of limber. The schooner Kauri, hence tho 17th August, had arrived at Auckland on the 24th.
Wrecks on the Coast.— By the arrival of the schooners Tawera and Fancy, we have intelligence of a wreck at Poverty Bay, and a supposed wreck off the Great'Barrier Island. The former vessel reports the tgtal wreck of the schooner Gem, Captain Webster, which went ashore on the bar at Poverty Bay, and was embedded some four feet in the spud, with the sea breaking over her at high water, and butts started, when the Tawera left. Her crew were enabled to get safely on shore, and save the cargo—The schooner Fancy, which arrived yesterday from the Barrier, reports the finding of the name-board and hatch of the senooner Hlra, by some men who were fishing at the Great Barrier last week. The Hira, Campbell, master, was a regular trading schooner between Tauranga and Wangamata, and was owned by Mr Foley, of the former place. She left Tauranga for the latter place more than a fortnight ago, and has not since been heard of. If is feared that she has foundered iu the recent heavy gajes off the popst.—Southern Cross, September 2.—The samejournal of the 4th, says •• —By the arrival of the schooner Tauranga wp leant that the schooner Hira of that port—the name-board and hatch of whioh were picked up by some fishermen at tlje Barrier —had arrived safely at Tauranga, and left there for Wfiangamata, in company with the Tauranga on Friday last. Arrival at Auckland of the Andrew Jackson.—This famous and noble clipper ship anchored in our harbor yesterday after a good run of 95 days from London. She is the bearer of a Igrgo number of nominated and assisted passengers, selected by Captain Daidy, agent general for the Province of Auckland; and the Di-St batch of frqm the Iron Districts, for their new special settlement ip the County of Mongonui, to be called the Brierly Hill Spe cial Settlement. Most of the passengers appear be in excellent health, which is no doubt attributable to the cleanly condition of the ship. The total number of souls on board is 273; there being three deaths during Ific passage.—New Zealand Herald, August 25. Departure of the Bombay. —Yesterday morning at nine o’clock the Bombay weighed anchor and left our port, after a lengthened stay of more than sbt months, carrying with her part of the invalids who are under orders for home. A number of persons assembled on the wharf to take a last view of the gaUaut vessel, and did not depart tiU every vestige of her was hidden behind the North Head.—New Zealander, September 4. Departure of the Brisk for Opotiki.— H.lL’s steam Brisk got up steam between five and six last evening, and left the harbor, it is believed, for Opotiki, to cover tbe disembarkation of the three intended to operate on the East Coast.—Southern Cross, September 2.
