Sydney, July 25 The sum of £330 was subscribed yesterday at Wollongong towards the restoration of St. Mary’s Cathedral. One ton of the Hartley mineral has produced 220 gallons of crude kerosene. Maize is quoted at 3s 3d. July 26. A portion of the evidence respecting the fire at St. Mary’s Cathedral shows that the fire was caused by some lighted charcoal falling accidentally from an incense censer. The Callaroy, s.s., from Newcastle, came into collision with the schooner Comet, twenty miles oil the Heads, last night. The Collaroy towed her back to Sydney, greatly injured. July 27. Flour is much firmer. Adelaide is quoted at £22 ; Chilian wheat brings 9s. The Maid of Honor, from Mauritius, brings 3322 bags sugar. July 28. Large sales are reported of sugar for New Zealand markets, on private terms. About 2500 bags, ex Montrose, were sold at auction to-day, at a slight decline on late prices : but, on the whole, the market is firmer. The sum of £216 was subscribed atEiama and Jamberoo on Thursday, and £2OO at Orange, towards the fund for the restoration of St. Mary’s Cathedral. The sum of £SOO was subscribed at Bathurst on Thursday last, towards the fund for restoring St. Mary’s Cathedral. Jj lour had risen again in price, and was quoted at £l4 per ton. There was a heavy demand for breadstufis for California. Adelaide, July 25. Exchange.—All the banks, except the National, sell their drafts at sixty days’ sight at H per cent, premium, and purchase bills of the same date at par. The National Bank purchases documentbills at par, and will buy bank bills at from half and three quarters per cent, premium. Four hundred Bank of Adelaide shares were quitted to-day at 5s premium. July 28th. The Rev. W. Taylor from California, is preaching nightly to crowded audiences. On the first day for receiving applications for shares in the Adelaide Life Assurance Company, 5,000 £5 shares were applied for. July 29 th. A meeting of E. J. Spence’s creditors was held to-day, but was adjourned. Recording to a statement supplied to the meeting, his liabilities amount to from £17,000 to £16,000, and his assets to £3,000. July 31st. Wheat is quiet. There have been sales at 8a lid, 8s lljd, and 9s, at the Port. Country brands of flour have been sold at £l9 10s. Town flour at £2O.
