if he fine little steamer Star of the South, Capt. G. Hodge* left Napier on Saturday, the sth inst, at 5 p.m, for Auckland, with a cargo of 959 sheep and 19 head of cattle Experienced fine weather with west and sou-west breezes. Passed the s.s. St Hilda lying in Hicks’ Bay. Arrived in Auckland on Monday, the 7th, at 8 p.m., having landed the whole of her cargo safely at the Tamaki, —thus m aking the mu from Napier to Auckland, and discharging the whole of her cargo, in 51 hours, —rather sharp work. She leff Auckland for this port (having taken in SO tons of coals) on Tuesday, the Sth inst., at 10 p.m. Experienced fine weather with very light Westerly breezes to the East Cape; from thenee to Napier had fresh south-west winds and fine weather. Arrived at this pert at 4 a.m, on tho morning of Friday last, August 11, having made the voyage up and down in o days and 11 hours—being, we believe, the ijyiekest passage an record. The as. Egmont arrived in this port on the afternoon of Thursday, fee 10th, from Wellington, and left for Auckland the same evening. The schooner Success, Captain G. Frost, hence the 29th July, arrived at Auckland on the afternoon of the 7th inst. Sad strong westerly winds and rough weather during the early part of the voyage; afterwards fell in with aor-west tfinds. Made tlie coast on the 6th, after haying been hoveto for two days to the eastward of the East Gape, during which time the vessel was hoarded hy some friendly natives, anxious to know her object in laying off the Cape. She IS again on the berth Cor this port—being advertised to toil On Saturday, August 12. .Wreck of thk ErroßE. — Site schooner Effort, whlchves* sei left Napier for Auckland some time ago, for the purpose «f getting repaired, was totally wrecked at Awanui, Bay of Keaty, on her passage up. No lives lost. ,
