The Hawke's Bay Times. NAPIER, THURSDAY, 27th JUDY, 1865.
The arrival of the English mail yesterday morning, together with news from both North and South, has filled all our available space to the exclusion of our leading article, several communicated articles, correspondence, &c. The news from Europe and America is little more than a comtinuation and confirmation of what had previously come to hand ; —the all-absorbing topic being the cessation of the gigantic American struggle,—the entire success of the Federal cause, resulting in the emancipation of all the slaves, and the restoration of the Union. This is beyond doubt the greatest event in modern history. Pity that it should have been marred by the assassination of the prime mover of the cause just at the moment that his efforts were crowned with success.
