The Hawke's Bay Times. NAPIER, MONDAY, 17th JULY, 1865. ARRIVAL OF THE RANGATIRA.

The arrival of this steamer yesterday morn* ing has placed us in possession of Auckland news to the 13th inst. There is very little Auckland news of any great importance. The seditious libel case, after an examination of four days in Ihe Resident Magistrate’s Court, had come to an end for the present —Mr C. 0. B. Davis being committed to take his trial at the ensuing session of the Supreme Court, bail being accepted for his appearance.—Mr George Graham had returned from the Waikato. The King had presented him with a large calabash full of preserved pigeons, which seems to be all that has resulted from his (Mr G.’s) mission of peace.—A N.Z. Gazette, June 27, received in Auckland by way of the West Coast, contains an Order in Council confiscating 214,000 acres of land at Tauranga.—Captain Calvert, Waikato Militia, had shot himself by the accidental discharge of a fowling-piece while pulling it through the bars of a gate. He leaves a young widow and four children.—By the brigantine Hercules, which arrived in Auckland on the morningof the 9th, from Newcastle, the papers had received intelligence of the arrival of the English Mail at Melbourne and Sydney, and contain some rather important news, especially from America, particulars of which will be found elsewhere, —We must defer any Auckland extracts until our next.
