Mr J. C. RICHMOND A MEMBER OF THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
[From the Nelson Examiner, July 4.] The retirement of Mr Weld from the Colonial Secretaryship, and the appointment of Mr J. C. Richmond to the vacant office and to a seat in the Cabinet, was announced by us on Saturday ; and we have now further to add, that Mr Richmond has resigned his seat in the House of Representatives as member for Omata. and will take a seat in the Legislative Council, as the representative of the Ministry in the Upper House. It was requisite that something should be done in order that Ministers might be represented in the Legislative Council. Mr Sewell having resigned his seat there to sit at New Plymouth, in the House of Representatives, left Ministers wholly unrepresented in the Upper House. It was absolutely necessary therefore, before the Assembly met, that an arrangement should be made, by which one member of the Ministry should have a seat in the Legislative Council.
