In the Vivid.—Mr Locke and SO natives. In the Lord Ashley.—Rev. H. W. St. Hill, Mrs Marsh and 4 children, Mrs Kennedy and child, Mrs Walter Tucker, Mrs Franklin. The Elizabeth —The schooner Elizabeth, Capt. Bell, arrived in this harbor on Wednesday morning. Sho left Newcastle on Friday, 16th June, and had easterly winds and fine weather the first part of the voyage. When about 200 miles from the Coast of New Zealand, the weather came on very thick, with a very high sea. She went through Cook’s Straits on Friday, the 30th June, the weather so thick that it was impossible to see the shore. When off Port Nicholson the wind shifted from the north-west to east, and blew » heavy gale. ■ She was obliged to keep under canvass, to keep clear of Palliser Bay and Palliser Head. At midnight shortened sail and hove to ; very severe gales and high sea, the decks being deluged with water. Sunday, 2nd July, the wind still continued very liigh, with fearful squalls. Mop (lay, 3rd, the wind and sea increased, so that it was found necessary to sail under close-rcefed fore-topsails and reefed foresails. While in this position a tremendous sea struck the vessel, and smashed in part of the bulwarks, filled the cabin with water, dashed the boat into fragments, unshipped the galley, and seriously damaged the rigging. She then liove-to, the wind blowing a perfect hurricane, the decks being constantly filled with water. On the 4th the weather moderated, the breeze gradually went off, with less sea.
