To the Editor of the Hawke's Bay Times

Sir,—l trust you have eyes to see, that all those so called “Letters to the Editor’ which appear in the H. B. Herald, signed, “Fact” “Mutton and Damper” “Bah” &c., are all Written by one person, and that a hirfl scribbler.—Yours &c, Z.

To the Editor of the Hawtce’t Bay Timet. Sir.—A fitting opportunity has at length occurred, for the enforcement of Sir George Grey's late proclamation against the Devil worship of the llau Pai Mariri, for that noted villain, Puora Told, and his wretched gang of followers, are in full glory at pah Whakaairo, going through all their antics, to t,he evident admiration of some of their audience. Psora and his mob are come to Pah whakaairo, on the invitation of Tareha, who has always regarded the Hau Hau, with a very favorable eye, and has united himself with the believers in as open a manner as he can with safety do so. The mob of fanatics has come under the pretence of a tangi over the death of an old Chief named, Tohu Tobu, who died at Petane some time ago. Here within sight of the town of Napier, the fanatics are going through all the forms of their devilish worship, with the utmost nonchalance and impudence, when they know what is the penalty (in theory) of so using. Sir, it now remains for the people of tho province to see what action will be taken by the authorities in this matter, whether they will suffer these continued visits of this band of Devil-worshippers, who are striving with all their powers to pervert the minds of their better thinking fellows : or whether they, will by acting in accordance with the Governors proclamation, give a single and a final blow to the spread of this hellish superstition in our neighborhood. All the big talk of the ‘loyal* Chiefs of Heretaunga, that flows so glibly from their lips in the presence of their good friend Donald, as an equivalent for periodical feasting *at.the public cost, their boasting as to how they would serve the Hau Hau, if they dared to come again to Heretaunga, has ended in moke. Their Upokos are still wagging ontheir shoulders, notwithstanding the ostentatious threats of the Heretaunga Chiefs, that they would cut them off if they came here again. Surely the magistrate in whose disirict the mob are located, will enforce the Governors proclamation against these vagabond fanatics. I am, &c., Law and Order.
