WELLINGTON.
(From the Mew Zealand Advertiser.) The Wellington Club.— At the request of th-3 Government the committee of the Wellington Club have placed their building (formerly the Criterion Hotel) at the disposal of his Excellency the Governor during his stay in this city, or until the extensive alteration in the Government House have been completed- The members of the Club, in the meantime, have engaged rooms in Mr Osgood’s Empire Hotel, where they will take a temporary residence. Breach op the Abus Act, —It will be seen by a reference to our Wanganui news that John Wishart, master of a vessel called the Adeona, has been arrested on a charge of disposing of arms »r,d ammunition without a license. Thore being no officer empowered to prosecute at Wanganui on behalf of the Government, the prisoner was remanded, and we believe that Mr Police Inspector Atcheaon will leave for Wanganui by the first opportunity for the purpose of investigating the matter, and if necessary prosecuting for the alleged oifence. The discharging of the ship Berar is being rapidly carried on by means of a steam winch with which the vessel is fitted, and we observe that a large quantity of the ironwork for the extension of the public wharf has already been lauded. Supposed Wreck. —We learn from a private source that on Saturday morning the skylight of a vessel, together with a broken desk and a letter signed “ T, Keogh,” was found on the beacli near the Pilot Station. The document is dated eight years back, but is quite legible. There were also several pieces of timber, supposed to be part of bulk-heads, and nearly a mile to the eastward was found half a cask of pitch, addressed “ Steamer Favorite, Hokitika.”
