BRISBANE.

May 2. Parliament was opened to-day by his Excellency Sir George Bowen. The speech congratulates the House on the rapid establishment of settlements in the northern portion of the territory, the continuance of immigration and the extension of the Government lines of railway and invites the consideration of establishing mail communication with England via Torres Straits. The other measures to be brought forward are of local interest only.
