LOCAL AND GENERAL
The Iris.—Previous to our going to press on Monday morning we had hoard that this cane:- had been wrecked on the coast near the Wa io , but we were unable to obtain reliable information in time for that issue. We have since learned that she has merely gone ashore, and-will roost probably be got
off again without injury. This fine little vessel has been of great expense to the Government, and we should be sorry to have to report her as lost, or even as greatly damaged.
The s.s. Lady Bird, —We are requested by the Chief Postmaster to state that in consequence of having to call in at the Bay of Plenty, the s.s. Lady Bird will not arriye here until to-morrow (Thursday), and that she will be despatched from here on her Southern trip on the evening of that day or the following morning.
