[From the Sydney Herald, Jan. 6.] MELBOURNE. Thursday, Jan. 5. The Australian Lloyd’s Association is now in active operation, and promises to be successful. ' The stations of Messrs. M'Leau and Taylor, on the Oawo, with 3,600 head of cattle, have been sold, but the price lias not been made known. Sales of Mauritius crystals at £37. Chilian flour placed readily at £l6 10s., and a parcel of 100 tons of American barrel at £2l. Clough’s wool sale passed off briskly. Greasy realised 10id. to 14 |d.; scoured, 16d. to 25d.; fleece, 17d. to 20d. Tallow, £2B to £3B. The Rangatira (s.) sails on Saturday.
BATHURST. Thursday, Jan. 5. An information has been laid to-day against Mr. Alderman Ashworth, for having in bis possession, and attempting to negotiate, a stolen £SO note, one of those taken from the Mudgee mail. A summons has been issued, and is returnable this day fortnight. ADELAIDE, mi Thursday, Dec 5. xiie Advert m' ct states that the Government intend to recall Dr. Goldsmith from the Northern territory, and to give Mr. Finniss power to dismiss any insubordinate person, man or officer. Simpson, the jockey, still lives in a precarious state. Business to-day is somewhat better. Flour in fair demand; sales at £l9 to £2O 10s. Millers very bare of stock. The market price of wheat is 7s. lOd.; in two instances Bs. has been paid. Bran has been sold at Is. 2d., for export. Corn sacks steady at 19s. to 20s. Oats, 4s. to ss. At Parr and Luxmore’s wool sale, greasy fetched Bsd. to 9id ; greasy lambs, Bid. ; skins, 4’ d. to orf. Tallow, 33s to 345. 6d. Hides, 2s 6d. Arrived: Princes Alice, from Row Zealand.
