R. M. COURT, NAPIER.

(Before J. Curling, Esq., E.M.) THURSDAY, JANUARY 19. DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. George Sawyers was charged by Corporal Sullivan with being drunk and disorderly at Napier on the 17th inst. The evidence was as follows: —Florence Sullivan, on oath, said :—The policeman on duty came to the lock-np last night about 12 o’clock for assistance. He said there was a quarrel at Mrs. M’Donald’s and that he was nnable to suppress it. I went with him to Mrs. M’Donald’s and found the house in a very disorderly state. The windows were shattered, and bottles of grog were broken about the floor. Mrs. M’Donald herself was very drunk. We could see none of the men that caused the row untii we came out to the road. Then George Sawyers got over the Oddfellow’s fence, adjoining the premises. He ran away as fast as he could and I pursued him. I caught him at Taylor’s public house, and took him into custody. He thought it was the soldiers pursuing him, and he was shouting murder as he went. He was drunk.—Fined 305., or 5 days imprisonment. Fine paid. DESERTION. John Toomy was brought up by Sergeant McCarthy, on a charge of desertion. It appears that he deserted from Napier on the 14th inst., and, when apprehended, was on the Euataniwha plains, making his way toward the bush. Ho was handed over to the military authorities. FRIDAY, JANUARY 20, DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Martin Higgins was charged with being drunk and disorderly in Napier on the 19th inst. Fined 10s., or 4.8 hours’ imprisonment. Committed in default.
