TARANAKI.

We have received our files of Taranaki papers which were before missing. At a public meeting of the settlers on tho subject of the disbanding of the, volunteers and militia, the following resolution was adopted, and the letter in question was proposed and forwarded to the Superintendent then at Auckland : —“That a committee ofthree persons be appointed ’ly this meeting to draw up a letter to his Honor the Superintendent pointing out the injustice and impolicy of summarily discharging the civilian forces in this province whilst, it is still unsafe to occupy the land, and without any provision having been made for enabling the farming and labouring population to support themselves ; and requesting his Honor to urge the matter on the.consideration of the General Government.” The following resolution was proposed and heartily approved of, says the Herald, by the whole meeting, but was not put, as it was considered foreign to the immediate object of the meeting:— “ That this meeting, under the conviction that the present unsettled and unsatisfactory condition of th§ colony of New Zealand is attributable mainly to the impolitic actions of Sir George Grey, or having no hope of future safety of prosperity under his rule, approves of the appointment of a committee for the purpose of preparing a memorial to her Majesty, urging upon her the necessity of an immediate recall of a Governor who has proved himself not only incapable of benefiting the European, but to be the greatest enemy to the native race.” —Southern Cross, Nov. 7.
