LOCAL INTELLIGENCE
On Friday we had the pleasure to observe an importation per Queen, to this province, of ten very fine young rams of the Romney Marsh breed, by Mr. J. Harding, of Mount Vernon. These, we believe, are of the produce of a flock introduced from the Mother Country by A. Ludlam, Esq., of Wellington, and are the first ever introduced into the Pro ■ vince. We observed that the staple of the wool is of extraordinary length, and though but very young, they all appeared to be of large and heavy carcase. We have no doubt that these will prove a valuable acquisition to the flock of the enterprising owner and to the Province also. Assault on the Highway. —Something like a case of “ sticking-up” occurred on Friday night last. We are informed that as Mr. John Harding, of Mount Vernon, was returning from the Pazaar, he was suddenly called upon to “ Stand” in the Shakspeare road, near the Catholic Chapel. He, however, took to his heels, but on arriving near the Shakspeare Tavern, he was overtaken and thrown down by a soldier, who handled him somewhat roughly. On calling for help, several persons came to his assistance, and further violence was prevented. Mr. Harding has since identified the man, and the case will be heard before the Magistrate’s Court to-morrow.
