To the Editor of the Hawke's Bay Times.

Sin,- —Seeing the account of “ a man supposed to he scalded and burnt to death ” at Waipawa, in your supplement of the 19th hist., I beg to forward you, the true state of the case. It, seems, that the policeman Boyle was scuffling with another of the name of Sullivan, both more or less intoxicated—that in the scuffle they capsized a kettle of boiling water, and not one, but hoik were severely scalded. They are now getting better, and the case is not so fatal as that reported in your paper. I trust you will give publicity to this, as these malicious reports not only stamp a small village like Waipawa, but greatly bias the public opinion. lam, Sir, lours, &c., &c., F. S. Abbott. Waipawa, September, 1804. [Our correspondent will see that we have represented the matter in its proper light in last Friday’s issue.— [Ed. H.B.T.]
