LOCAL INTELLIGENCE

Resident Magistrate’s Court. — Sutton v. Hudson. —This was a claim for goods supplied to the Colonial Defence Force, to the amount of .£l7 19s. 6d. during the months of February, March, and April. F. Sutton, on oath, stated that these, goods were supplied hy him to the men of Colonial Defence Force stationed in Napier, the plaintiff agreed to be responsible for them. C. Hudson, admitted that lie had made himself responsible for a part of the claim, but disputed his liability for the whole. Five sucks oats included in the claim, he denied his responsibility for, nothavingordered them. Plaintiff stated that before those goods were delivered he waited upon defendant and received his authority for the supply. Judgment for the whole amount and costs. Napier Militia.— The following is from a “ New Zealand Gazette,” dated the 10th August, 18G4 : —Ensign Vautier Janisch, to he Lieutenant, date of commission, 29th July, 1864; Alexander Inglis, to be Ensign, date of commission, 29th July, 1864. Waipawa Cavalry Volunteers—Lieutenant Thomas Tanner to he Captain, date of commission, 22nd July, 1864 ; Cornet John Russell Duncan, to he Lieutenant, date of commission, 22nd July, 1864; Frederick Martin Chapman, to be Cornet, date of commission, 22nd July, 1864. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to accept the resignations of Captain Alfred D. Corfield, and Lieutenant J. D. Canning.
