August 7 — Queen, s.s., 177 tons, Cellum, for Auckland, with part of original cargo and passengers from southern ports, and Mr. James Russel from Napier. —Yautier Janisch, agent. The s.s. Star of the South, left Auckland on the 4th inst., at 11 - 30 p.m. and had light airs from the S.W. Arrived at Tauranga on the sth at 5 - 30 p.m. Left again on the 6th at 10 - 30 p.m. Experienced light S.W. winds to the East Cape, when it blew hard from the southward with a heavy head sea. Ran back to Kawakawa, and came to an anchor at 5‘30 p.m. on the 7th. At 6 a.m. on the Bth sailed again, with strong southerly winds and heavy head sea prevailing, and at 5’30 p.m. came to anchor in Tolaga Bay. Sailed again on the 9th at 630 a.m., with strong gales from the South, at 10 a.m. the Gale End Foreland bearing West. The wind increasing, ran back to Tolaga
Bay. Sailed again on the 10th, and had alight head winds to Napier.
