The Seat of Government. —We take the following from the Lyttelton Times of the 9th inst.: —The Melbourne Despatch, a new paper, whose first number has just reached us, says :—The Commissioners appointed by the various governors of the Australian colonies to decide upon the locale of the future capital of New Zealand, will shortly start for the scene of their labors. Sir Charles Darling has appointed Sir Francis Murphy ; and we believe that Sir John Young, of New South Wales, has conferred the appointment on Mr. Docker, M.L.C. ; and that Colonel Gore Browne, of Tasmania, has selected Mr. Gunn, thb police magistrate of Launceston. The Commissioners will reach Auckland about the first July, and upon their arrival there the New Zealand Government will place a steamer at their disposal for the purpose of visiting Cook’s Strait, in some portion of which the future capital is to be chosen.

IN PURSUANCE of the provisions of an A.ct of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled, “The Provincial Elections Act, 1858,” I, John Russell Duncan, Esq., Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Waipukurau, do hereby give notice that by virtue of a Writ bearng date the 21th June, 1861, issued under the hand of his honor the Superintendent of the Province of Hawke’s Bay, an election will be held for the return of one qualified person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council of Hawke’s Bay for the said Electoral District, in lieu of T. P. Russell Esq., resigned ; and that the nomination of candidates will take place at Mr. T. P. Russell’s Wool-shed, Waipukurau, on Tuesday, the sth July, and that the Poll (if necessary) will take place on Wednesday, the 6th July, and that I shall declare the state of the Poll on Thursday, the 7th July.
