The New Chum of th’ Apostle band Thus sang his melody : “I’m out from Christian England, But they won’t get over me. “ You’ve heard, I know, the horrid row That’s made about th’ ‘ Apostles I begin to think it is no go, And it’s all up with the R———ls. “ That wretch the People’s paper Times Has been and gone and done it ; And well-nigh spoilt our tender rhymes, Apostles’ curses on it! “For after you had left the Town We added to our number The two toe had a down upon, Which you may well remember. . “ This was the cause of all our woes I’ll prove to satisfaction, For, giving them a share, one knows Leaves us a smaller fraction. “But John and Thomas now are in, And Thomas, too, the Dapper, And Chief Priest Sam, and brother Jim, And Jem the Whipper-Snapper. “And you, and me, and Bill the Rich, Who fired the first]shot at 'em ; It’s all up now—we’re in a fix Through John and Thom as—drat ’em. “ For Tom, he spoke fair words, you knowi I always said lie could it; And told the people how he’d bow To th’ people’s righteous verdict. “ And if they wanted guarantee, Why, he the Mogul voted, There was ins word, no wish had he, For HUMBUG to be noted. “ But if there ever was a man Who did liuinhug the people, (‘ A pillar of the Church, too,’ Tom began, ‘ And he’ll end by being the steeple !) “But 1 said, if ever a man there was Fond of taking them in, And giving no reason why or coz, lie did this little tiling. “ And I say’ again, if there could be An Apostle more ably fitted For leading off the scent than he, Why, then—they’re to be pitied. “ So Tom’s the cause of all the row, He and John the Shrewd, O ! Wo others are innocent, you know, Not DOERS, but the DOO’D, O! “ Why John is looked upon so ill, I cannot tell you truly, ’Tis connected with the “ Safety Bill,” Passed in the General Assembly. “ Well, let’s look out, and wait a bit, Xor order too much wire ; Lest the chaps at that confounded Spit, Was bolder in their ire. “Tick, on such terms, would m aka no show, Ah ! then, where are the R s ? Tick ! I bethink me if thou go, It’s all up with th’ Apostles!” Communicated.
