LATEST NEWS from the NORTH.
By the schooner Victoria which arrived yesterday, we have files from Auckland to the 9th inst:—
The correspondent of the Daily Southern Cross, writing from Headquarters, Te Awamutu, March 7, says : The General left here on Sunday (yesterday) morning, at 6 o’clock, his destination being Auckland. He was accompanied by Major M’Neil, A.D.C.; Lieut. St. Hill, A.D.C.; and Col. Carey. Commodore Sir W. Wiseman, Bart., also left at the same time. Col. Waddy of the 50th remains in charge of the station. The General is not expected to return for a week or so, and it is believed whilst in town the proposed attack on Maungatautari, to rout the rebels from their last position in this district, will be discussed and definitely decided whether it shall take place this season or be deferred until next summer.
