To the Editor of the Hawke's Bay Times.

“ A horseA horse! My kingdom for a horse!" Sir, —If the writer of the account of the Hawke’s Bay Baces which appeared in your paper was under the influence of beer, it is pretty certain that the writer of the account of those races which appeared in the Herald must have been, when writing, under the influence of bile, the natural consequence of high feeding. If we may judge of that able party’s feats in eating by his own description of the havoc made by himself upon mine host Maney’s beef, he must have a prodigious appetite. lam not, therefore, surprised to find that the productions of his pen savor strongly of eating, and arc “ of the beef beefy.” Taking anonymous “ Boz” at his own valuation, I would rather keep him a week than a fortnight. With regard to the new horses which ran this year at our annual meet, very little can lie said. With the exception of Numa, they are as poor a lot as ever were seen on a race-course. Those that are not screws are weeds, and those that are not weeds are screws. Bos.
