Fire ax the Meanee Bridge. —On Tuesday night last, between nine and ten o’clock, the stables belonging to Mr. Maney, of the Meanee Hotel, were discovered to be in flames. The fine draught entire “ Maui” was stabled in the building for the night, and despite the utmost efforts of his owner, Mr. Carmichael, and others to get him out, this fine horse was burnt to death. The origin of the fire is unknown, but suspicion rests on the Maories, several of whom were about the premises. The building was entirely destroyed, but we understand that Mr. Maney was insured to the amount of .£2OO. A subscription list lias been opened on behalf of Mr. Carmichael, who is a hard-working and industrious man, and a goodly sum has already been collected.
