LOCAL INTELLIGENCE

Runaway Horses. —On Wednesday last, a dray drawn by two borses was coming down the Shakspeare-road, when some of the gear gave way near Mr. Garry’s blacksmith's shop, at which the horses took fright, and ran at full speed down the road. They were only stopped in their mad career by the dray running against a cart belonging to Mr. Doherty, which was standing near the bakery. Considering the circumstances, there was very little damage done, Mr. Doherty’s cart being but slightly smashed ; but we would advise drivers to be more cautious with their teams whilst in town, as this is the second occurrence of the kind which has taken place on the same part of the road within the past month, both, happily, without injury to life or limb.

Supposed Case of Drowning. —Mr. A. 'McDonald, of the Spit, has been missing since Friday morning last, at which time he called at a neighbor’s house to enquire for his mate, so that he might take the Hero out to the ship Telegraph, then lying outside. His mate not being there, McDonald left, and has not been seen or heard of since. His fate is as yet a mystery, but it is supposed that by some accident he fell into the water whilst attempting to board the Hero, and was carried away by the current.
