ARRIVAL OF TROOPS FROM HOBART TOWN.

The barque Isabella, from Hobart Town, was a welcome arrival yesterday. She brought the reinforcements from Tasmania, which the Governor, Colonel Gore Browne, so promptly despatched to the succour of the colonists of New Zealand. The strength of the 12th Eegiment will be very considerably increased by the accession of the detachment, numbering 109; and the effective force of the regiment will be complete on the arrival of the small detachment now on the passage hither from England. The advices from Victoria are very satisfactory, as will be seen by the telegrams published elsewhere; and ihese tidings we found confirmed in a private letter which we perused. It is satisfactory to know that the Government of Victoria manifests no abatement of interest in the affairs of New Zealand, as is unfortunately the case with New South Wales. The entire of the infantry and artillery stationed in Victoria are to be sent to Auckland, leaving the defence of the Colony in the hands of the Volunteers. Thiss act of generous friendship is one which our fellow settlers will long remember ; and

as we are likely to draw the greater number of our military settlers from Victoria, it it is not improbable that it will create an intercourse which will unite Auckland and Melbourne more closely in commercial matters. However that may be, we must express our gratitude to our fellow-subjects in Victoria for their sympathy and assistance in our season of adversity. —Daily Southern Cross, 4th September.
