On the 24th June, a banquet was given at Wills’ Rooms, by Australian gentlemen in London to the new Governor of Victoria, who could not be present owing to illness. Notwithstanding his indisposition, he intended leaving in the Suffolk on the 2Gth June. Fortnightly postal communication with Australia via Guile still engages public attention, and will likely be carried out in about six months. The Peninsular and Oriental Company are making the necessary preparations at King George’s Sound. Sir Joseph Hewley netted £ 11,000 by the Chester Cup, and Lord Bate man realised £3500. His lordship was also fortunate upon another event, winning a total sum of ,£4ooo. —Court Journal.
