WlTHla'view'to relieving as” much as possible the move distant of (he country settlers, the Major Commanding will take the responsibility of exempting all persons now called out for training whose actual residence is situated more than 10 miles from the nearest drilling ground of the com-pany-to which they belong. And persons residing more than 5 miles from such nearest drilling ground, will, as far as the officers of their company can arrange it, be permitted to drill 4 hours on one day, so as to count for two days of the prescribed period of training. All exceptions under the above head are to be applied for to the Captains of the Companies to - which the' applicants long, who, on satisfying himself of the general correctness of the applications will recommend them for the approval of the Major Commanding. DONALD M'LEAN, Superintendent A PROCLAMATION Declaring cci’tain articles contraband of War. By his Excellency Sir 'George Grey, Knight Commander of the most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c., &c., WHEREAS by the “ Arms Act, 18G0,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the'Governor by Proclamation published in the New Zealand Gazette from time to declare what articles shall be considered as warlike stores for the purposes of the said Act and also for the purposes of an Ordinance of the Lieutenant Governor and Legislative Council of New Zealand passed in the sixth session of the said Council intituled “An Ordinance to empower the Governor of New Zealand to regulate the Importation and sale of Arms, Gunpowder and other Warlike stores.” Now therefore I, Sir George Grey the Governor of the said Colony in pursuance and exercise of the said power and authority do hereby proclaim and declare that the undermentioned articles shall (amongst others) be considered as Warlike stores for the purposes above-mentioned that is to say : Firearms of every description, Accoutrements for such arms, Gunpowder of every description in cart- • ridge or otherwise, Percussion caps, I lints, Lead. Zinc and Copper, manufactured or otherwise, Shot, Ball, Bullets, Marbles, Saltpetre, Bayonets, Pikes, Hay-forks, Scythes, Swords, Tomahawks, Adzes, and all other edged tools of whatever description soever capable of being used as weapons, Iron of all kinds capable of being converted into weapons.
