Volunteers from Otago. —We learn that Mr. Sheet, of Otago, (brother to Mr. Sheet of the Survey Staff gone to Taranaki with a view to offer the services of 200 volunteers from Otago, under the term# specified in Mr. Domett’s letter. They only require in addition to those terms, that their passages should be paid. It is to he regretted that Mr. Sheet will find the Government have returned to Auckland, but he will proceed thither. As there seems to be some doubt as to whether the block of land which Mr Domett says the Government has determined to take possession of —has been ceded by the natives or is to be confiscated, we may state that the portion of the block owned by friendly natives has been ceded, while the remainder, it is presumed, the Governor has determined to confiscate. At the same time Mr. Sheet is authorised to act on behalf of 200 persons, we are assured that a very much larger number of diggers are willing to volunteer on similar terms. The help of these men, under the new system of fighting, cannot be to greatly appreciated. Ere long we hope to see very many of them located at Waikato. —Wellington Independent, June IG.
