We notice in the issue of our friend the Herald’s paper of the 14th, that he lays to the charge of a “ district surveyor” all the “ witty and funny” articles written in this paper. It matters very little who wrote those articles, for it is manifest. to the whole of Hawke’s Bay that they have rather “ shut up” our esteemed contemporary, and that he is quite unable to answer any one of them. Wc will merely add that if tiie learned Herald had let Mr. M’Lean alone, it would have been better by far for that gentleman, for he has gained nothing by having his praises sung by that journal, which has ever been remarkable for its sycophancy.
